Nick Kyrgios has signed up for a pre-Australian Open event as he will be among the participants of the 1 Point Slam, which is scheduled to take place on January 14th at Rod Laver Arena.

Over the last couple of years, the Australian Open organizers have been hosting entertaining events and shows the week before the official start of the tournament. And the upcoming edition will be no exception as the 1 Point Slam event is set to be a tournament featuring pro and amateur players. The winner of the match will literally be the individual who wins the first and only point played.

Before Kyrgios, a couple of other major names confirmed their 1 Point Slam participation - Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Alex de Minaur and Lorenzo Musetti. The event will feature a 48-player field, with the winner collecting $1 million.

Australian Open tournament director's statement on Kyrgios' 1-Point Slam participation

Opening Week in 2026 is set to be our most ambitious yet. Fans can see the worlds best players in must-see showdowns alongside the edge-of-your-seat intensity of the 1 Point Slam, offering world-class tennis at remarkable value. From day one of Opening Week the entire precinct will be open, with charity showdowns lighting up Rod Laver Arena, AO qualifying underway, live entertainment, Kids Tennis Day presented by Emirates, and experiences for all ages," Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley said.

Kyrgios' 2026 season and his career resumption were in serious doubt after the 30-year-old contracted a knee injury after just returning to tennis and appearing in four tournaments earlier this year. For months, the Australian's knee wasn't showing any signs of progress. But then, a month ago, the former world No. 13 said that his knee started to "miraculously" improve and that's when he confirmed that he would play the Australian Open.

Hopefully, Kyrgios avoids any physical setbacks over the next couple of weeks.
