Golfer Tiger Woods, winner of 15 majors, stated on Tuesday that his recovery from surgery last October is progressing more slowly than he would like and asserted that he is "a long way off" from knowing what his schedule will be in 2026.

"The recovery isn't going as fast as I'd like," the golfer said during a press conference ahead of the Hero World Challenge, which begins this Thursday in the Bahamas, although he clarified that the process "was a good thing" that he needed.

"It just requires time and dedication in the rehabilitation process," he added.

Woods, who will turn 50 on December 30, underwent surgery on October 11 in New York to replace a lumbar disc, his second operation this year after rupturing his left Achilles tendon in March.

The athlete added that he recently received authorization to do chipping and putting, although he did not reveal a date for his return to the professional circuit.

He also ruled out his participation in the PNC Championship, which will take place between December 18 and 21 in Orlando, and in which he has participated alongside his son in recent editions.

The last official tournament Woods played was the 2014 British Open, where he missed the cut. That same September, he underwent another surgery.

The Rules of Golf are a set of standards and procedures by which the sport of golf should be played. They are jointly written and administered by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the governing body of golf worldwide, except in the United States and Mexico, which are governed by the United States Golf Association. An expert committee composed of members of the R&A and the USGA oversees and refines the rules every four years. The latest revision took effect on January 1, 2016. Amendments to the Rules of Golf are generally divided into two main categories: those that improve understanding and those that reduce penalties in certain cases to ensure balance. The rulebook, entitled "Rules of Golf," is published regularly and also includes rules governing amateur status. In Italy, the Italian Golf Federation is responsible for overseeing competitions by enforcing the rules issued by the R&A, ensuring that these rules are observed by clubs, associations, and their members, and managing the resulting sporting justice, protecting their interests abroad.
