Apostolos Tsitsipas was driving Stefanos' car when it was caught speeding at 210km/h in a 120km/h zone, but the two-time Grand Slam finalist will have to surrender his driver's license for a month because they were too late to appeal, according to a Greek publication.

In mid-November, a report surfaced in Greece claiming that the speed camera on Attiki Odos caught Tsitsipas driving 90km/h over the limit. The same report said that he was fined 2,000 euros and that he would lose his driver's license for a year.

After the news was picked up by international media, the Greek tennis star's lawyer said in a statement that the 13-time ATP champion was not driving the car when the incident occurred, but a third person. The 27-year-old's lawyer also insisted that the matter was "resolved."

"Regarding the incident that was made public, the car was being driven by a third person. The issue of the fine and the surrender of the license have all been handled," lawyer Papathanasiou told tennisnews.gr.

New details surface about the Tsitsipas speeding incident

Via Protothema, Apostolos took the responsibility for the speeding incident on Attiki Odos. And while Apostolos also paid the fine, their appeal wasn't lodged in due time and therefore the 2023 Australian Open finalist will lose his driver's license for a year.

"According to police authorities, the right to appeal the fine is valid for seven days. Therefore, the Traffic Police commander informed Apostolos Tsitsipas that since the seven days had passed, Stefanos himself must appear and surrender his licence for one year something that has not yet happened," a report from Protothema claimed.
