The 2025 season has been marked by the rivalry between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who are set to monopolize the men's tour for much longer if there are no shocking surprises. None of their opponents seems able to reach such a high level in the near future and the gap that separates these two young champions from the competition is perfectly exemplified by the ATP rankings.
The Spaniard and the Italian have equally divided the Grand Slam titles over the past two years, as well as battling for the top position in the rankings until the last ATP tournament in 2025. The 24-year-old from Sesto Pusteria confirmed himself as champion at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin for the second year in a row, but the three wins obtained in the round robin allowed the 22-year-old from Murcia to end the season as number 1 thanks to the extraordinary continuity shown from the spring onwards.
The six-time Grand Slam champion lifted eight trophies in 2025 and beat his huge rival in Rome, Roland Garros, Cincinnati and the US Open, losing to him at the Wimbledon Championships at the ATP Finals in Turin just over a week ago. Right now, Carlitos is leading 10-6 in h2h against Jannik.
A dream rivalry
The two big rivals will face each other in an exhibition match in Seoul on January 10, 2026, just over a week before the start of the Australian Open in Melbourne.
Through his official 'LinkedIn' profile, French top coach Patrick Mouratoglou expressed some really interesting thoughts on this duopoly: "Although Carlos has the advantage in h2h against Jannik, it is worth highlighting how most of their clashes have been really balanced. The Roland Garros final was decided by very few details, without either of them giving the feeling of being superior to the other.
I am convinced that these two players are equal from a technical, tactical and mental point of view. Let's not forget that Sinner almost caught Alcaraz in the ATP rankings despite missing three months."
