Alexandr Dolgopolov admits he hardly watches tennis nowadays because of the situation in his country, but the former Ukrainian tennis star still has a take on the current state of the game as he believes Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are "equal" to the Big Three when they play their best, but overall thinks they are not as solid as Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were in their primes.

Dolgopolov, who played his last match in 2018 before officially confirming his retirement in 2021, enlisted in the Ukrainian army as soon as the war broke out in his country. While the 37-year-old has been battling on the front, that hasn't prevented him from occasionally giving takes on tennis but also sharing updates from the front.

Since Dolgopolov's retirement from the game, a lot has changed in the men's game as Nadal and Federer are retired while Djokovic admitted himself that Alcaraz and Sinner were a step ahead of him. In 2023, Djokovic made all four Grand Slam finals and won three Majors. Since 2024, only the Spaniard and the Italian have been winning Grand Slams.

When it comes to the rest of the competition, Dolgopolov believes the top-15 group from his era was better than today.

Dolgopolov: Sinner and Alcaraz are probably equal to the Big Three on their best days

"Hardly watch tennis these days, but how I see it compared to our age: Sinner/Alcaraz best days probably equal to big 3, overall less solid than any of big 3. Top 3-15 much weaker than our age. 15-50 about similar. 50-100 modern players are stronger than our age. Peace," the Ukrainian former world No. 13 wrote on X.

Dolgopolov has been serving as a drone operator in the Ukrainian army.
