Casper Ruud suggests his hair change was done purely for off-season vacation purposes as the three-time Grand Slam finalist says it is much easier for him to dry his hair when it is short.

After reaching the season-ending tournament directly in 2021, 2022, and 2024, Ruud finished 10th in the Race to the ATP Finals this year. That was good enough for the former world No. 2 to go to Riyadh as the second alternate.

When Ruud arrived in Riyadh, one of the first things that fans instantly noticed was that his usually long hair was cut short. What made it a bit funnier was that he was pictured smiling alongside Carlos Alcaraz in one picture - who has been changing his haircut regularly for the past couple of months since debuting a buzz-cut at the US Open.

Ruud: I have been doing a lot swimming on holiday and now I only need three seconds to dry my hair

Asked by former Grand Slam doubles champion Elena Vesnina to explain what prompted his decision to cut his hair short, the 26-year-old provided an explanation but also noted that he plans to grow it back.

"It was only my idea. I was doing a lot of swimming on holiday, coming in and out of the ocean, and I thought it was better to just cut it because after like three seconds it is dry. So, that's kind of why I did it. It's just comfortable and practical, but I will probably let it grow back out, and in some months, it will be back to normal," the Norwegian explained.

Meanwhile, Ruud didn't get a chance to play at the ATP Finals this year since no players withdrew from the tournament.
