Felix Auger-Aliassime thinks some of his colleagues have "completely lost their tennis perspective" and that's why so many of them don't find competing a joyful experience anymore.
As the season reaches its final stage, that often leads to more and more players openly complaining about the lengthy schedule and being extremely tired and fatigued. This year was no different as there had been several cases of a player openly blaming tiredness for a poor performance and a loss.
For Auger-Aliassime, these last few months have been all but a struggle - US Open (SF), Shanghai Masters (QF), Brussels (won title), Basel (QF), Paris Masters (finalist). And now, the world No. 8 has been through to his maiden ATP Finals semifinal after beating Alexander Zverev 6-4 7-6 (6) in a decisive match for the remaining semifinal spot in Turin.
Afterward, the Canadian tennis star was asked what's his secret to looking so well at this part of the season.
Auger-Aliassime: I don't know how guys don't enjoy it... If you want to play less tournaments, stay home
"I don't know how guys don't enjoy it, to be honest. I think they lost perspective completely. I get that you can get tired. I'm tired, too. I do trips around and I go see different circumstances around the world. I mean, we're just lucky and blessed. In my humble opinion, every day I wake up and I enjoy. I enjoy that I'm here. Even if I lose matches, it's okay, I'm pissed for a day. I don't know. If you want to play less tournaments, stay home. Nobody's forcing you to be here," the 25-year-old said.
Today, Auger-Aliassime will face a major challenge when he meets Carlos Alcaraz at the ATP Finals. The Canadian defeated Alcaraz in their first three meetings but the world No. 1 has won their last four matches.
