Alexander Zverev admits he would prefer the most to have avoided both Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz in the ATP Finals group stage.
After this year's groups for the season-ending tournament were revealed, Zverev learned that he would compete against Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton and Lorenzo Musetti in Bjorn Borg Group. The other group - named after Jimmy Connors - consists of Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur.
"I was actually hoping both of them would be in the same group so that we could play in different ones, but it is what it is," Zverev admitted.

Zverev explains why he thinks Sinner is a better indoor player than Alcaraz
Alcaraz won an outdoor hard tournament in Tokyo shortly after beating Sinner in the US Open final. But when it comes to indoor tennis, the Spanish tennis hasn't had much success, easily losing to Fritz at the Laver Cup and picking up a shock Paris Masters opening loss to Cameron Norrie.
On the other side, the Italian has been outstanding over the past few weeks, winning Vienna and Paris.
"It doesnt matter, to be honest. Well, it does matter, but theyre both among the best players in the world, for sure. For me, on this particular surface and indoors, on a faster hard court, I feel like this court is much faster than Paris, I think Jannik is the best player in the world right now. And I think if you ask Carlos, hed probably agree," Zverev explained.

In the same interview, Zverev noted that he still believes he can get the job done against Sinner and Alcaraz. Also, the third-ranked German specifically mentioned that he claimed back-to-back ATP Finals wins over the Spanish tennis star in 2023 and 2024.
Zverev is a two-time ATP Finals champion (2018 and 2021), but his triumphs came long before the Italian and the Spaniard started dominating.
