Cody Rhodes just made a bold decision that could blow up in his face at Saturday Nights Main Event.
During the Halloween edition of WWE SmackDown, Cody didnt just sign the contract to defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against Drew McIntyrehe accepted a major twist that puts the title in serious jeopardy.
SmackDown closed with the contract signing inside the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. Instead of a simple pen-to-paper moment, it turned into a tense showdown. Drew McIntyre refused to sign the deal, calling it lopsided and reminding everyone that Rhodes could retain the title via disqualification or count-out.
McIntyre stood up to leave, telling SmackDown GM Nick Aldis to go get one of them when Aldis threatened to replace him. Thats when Cody stepped in and upped the stakes.
Rhodes told McIntyre that he wanted the match just as badly and agreed to flip the script. 110% fine with that, Cody said about the new clause. Despite Aldis strongly advising against it, Cody added, I dont give a damn. That move locked in the stipulation: Cody will lose the title if hes disqualified or counted out.
Drew didnt hesitate to sign after that. But he didnt stop therehe got personal. McIntyre claimed he was the real American Dream, having migrated to the U.S. and made it big. Cody hit back with a brutal verbal finisher, reminding him that when I got tired of WWE, I grew some balls and walked you, my friend, you just got fired.
Then came the low blow that sparked chaos: McIntyre brought up Codys daughters, saying theyd be happier if their dad were home for Halloween. Cody snapped, charging Drew, but got flattened by a Claymore Kick and sent crashing through a table.
Cody Rhodes is now walking into Saturday Nights Main Event with everything on the lineincluding the title he fought so hard to win. One mistake, one misstep, and it all slips away.
