Jannik Sinner has had to deal with a staggering number of criticisms after announcing his decision to skip the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna this year, having as his main goal to recharge his batteries for next season. The world number 2 had been fundamental in the last two editions of this event, dragging Italy to victory in Malaga in both 2023 and 2024 and breaking a curse for his country.

Recently, FITP president Angelo Binaghi revealed that the four-time Grand Slam champion had expressed his desire to skip the 2025 edition as early as last year, but everyone hoped that he would change his mind as time went on. The former world number 1 - on the contrary - has confirmed his choice and will not be present in Bologna to help his teammates.

This means that Jannik's season will end after the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin scheduled at the Inalpi Arena from 9 to 16 November in which he will try to defend the title won in 2024 in front of his home fans. Sinner will certainly be the huge favorite at the Masters, not only because he is the defending champion but also because he is able to express his best tennis in indoor conditions.

During the latest edition of his famous podcast, American legend Jimmy Connors analyzed the Italian's choice to skip the Davis Cup Finals this year: "The feeling is that Jannik would suffer criticism even if he were to win four or five editions of the Davis Cup in a row. The season is really long and the players need rest, it is not possible to make comparisons with the tennis players of my generation."

The former world No.1 also added: "I started playing at a time when winning a tournament made you $1200, not $5 million. It was essential at the time to play as many tournaments as possible, but the situation has changed now and players make different choices."
