Ortiz might not have been on AEW television in a while, but hes far from done with the companyat least for now. The AEW original recently revealed that his contract has about a year left, and hes already thinking about the future, both in and out of the ring.

During a chat with Wombreezy, Ortiz opened up about his current AEW deal, stating that while it expires sometime next year, hes hopeful about staying with the promotion long-term. He also revealed hes been working behind the scenes in coaching and producing roles, something thats giving him a fresh perspective on the wrestling business.

Those backstage responsibilities have had a personal impact on him, as Ortiz explained that the added experience is helping him improve even as a performer.

Ortiz also made it clear that even if his future in AEW becomes more focused on coaching, hed be fine with thatas long as he can keep lacing up the boots occasionally.

The AEW star has been out of action since a tag team match on Collision back in January 2024, when he and Eddie Kingston lost to Bryan Danielson and Claudio Castagnoli. Ortiz suffered an injury that night and underwent surgery shortly after. While hes fully recovered, he hasnt returned to AEW programming since.

Whether AEW chooses to bring Ortiz back into the spotlight or keep him working behind the curtain, hes made it clear hes all inif they want him.
