Belinda Bencic claimed that she had "a full dj vu" moment just before sealing the win in the Tokyo final and also declared the Japanese capital "a special and happy place."
Four years ago, Bencic completed the biggest run of her career after winning six matches to bring Switzerland the gold medal from the Tokyo Olympics. That year, the top-ranked Swiss female tennis player defeated Jessica Pegula, Misaki Doi, Barbora Krejcikova, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Elena Rybakina, and Marketa Vondrousova en route to becoming an Olympic champion.
This past week, Bencic returned to Tokyo for the first time since her magnificent Olympic run. And she won the WTA tournament in the Japanese capital as well after ousting Linda Noskova in the final 6-2 6-3. The Swiss' run to the main glory also included wins over Varvara Gracheva, Karolina Muchova, and Sofia Kenin.

Bencic reacts to winning the Olympics and the WTA tournament in Tokyo
It's really, really special. I had a full dj vu moment on court because I literally had match point on the same side of the court. I went for the same serve. I was telling myself the same things. It was really a dj vu moment. It is great to win here again. I feel like Tokyo and Japan is really like my happy place in my career, and just a place where I have good success, and I like to be here," the Swiss said.
Bencic has now won two titles in 2025. Overall, her resume now includes 10 WTA titles.
