Holger Rune suffered a terrible injury during the semi-final of the Stockholm ATP 250 last weekend and will have to be away from the professional tour for a very long period of time. He was diagnosed with a ruptured Achilles tendon, a very serious injury that may require up to a year of rehabilitation before being able to return to action without risk.

The Danish ace is still very young and will have time to show the whole world his full potential, but it is a hard blow that he would not have deserved and that will also compromise part of the 2026 season.

The former world number 4 has already undergone surgery and will give his best to return to the court as soon as possible, after receiving so much affection from his colleagues and all the insiders. He is certainly one of the brightest talents of the new generation and although he has only expressed his talent in flashes so far it is safe to believe that he will be able to undermine Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in the future.

Rune must only think about his rehabilitation process at this time and must avoid forcing the times, otherwise he risks suffering a new injury with devastating consequences as has happened to other athletes in different sports.

On the latest episode of his podcast, former American ace Andy Roddick gave some advice to Holger and his team to better face this tough period: If Im in Holger Runes camp, like obviously youve got to see how the rehab goes, the one thing I want to establish is that we are not in a rush to get back.

We are 22. Lets say you want to play until youre 35. Is two months going to matter and the downside of rushing back versus the upside of being completely healthy when you come back to Jon Wertheims point, I think is sizeable. I almost think my goal would be like hey, listen, lets go hard and lets see if we cant play a couple of smaller events at the end of next year. Lets go hide in the futures or a challenger.
