
In a tragic incident that has shaken the Japanese wrestling community, former pro wrestling referee Katsumi Sasazaki is believed to have been killed by a bear while working at a hot spring facility in Kitakami, Iwate Prefecture. He was 60 years old.
Sasazaki, who had worked for All Japan Womens Wrestling, Zero1, and most recently Marigold, was cleaning an outdoor bath at the hot spring inn on Thursday when he reportedly went missing. Police later found signs of a struggle, including bloodstains, animal fur, his cleaning equipment, glasses, and slippers left at the scene.
A search party eventually discovered a body believed to be Sasazakis in a nearby wooded area. Authorities confirmed they shot and killed an adult male Asiatic black bear that is believed to be responsible for the attack.
Known to fans as Katsumi Tiger, Sasazaki was remembered by those close to him as a kind and dedicated figure in the industry. He was more than just a refereehe also worked as a bus driver, transporting wrestlers to and from events.
