Nick Kyrgios admits he does not want to go under the knife once again and that he is aware that his pro tennis chapter is coming to an end.

In 2022, Kyrgios enjoyed the best year of his career after making the Wimbledon final in singles, becoming an Australian Open doubles champion with Thanasi Kokkinakis, and clinching several top-10 wins that year. That particular season, the Australian also won the ATP 500 tournament in Washington and reached the US Open quarterfinal.

Then, Kyrgios was hit with a brutal setback when he sustained a knee injury in the offseason, which forced him to undergo surgery and miss the start of 2023. In his first tournament back in 2023 June, the seven-time ATP champion injured his wrist. The injury was bad enough for him to be forced to go under the knife once again and be out for the next year and a half.

Kyrgios, who made his comeback at the start of the 2025 season in Australia, appeared in only four main-level tournaments this year - with his last being the Miami Masters in March. He felt wrist pain in all of his five matches in 2025, before his knee woes also resurfaced in the spring.

Kyrgios: I can't do another surgery

I do know that Im getting to the end of my tennis career now, especially with all these injuries. I cant do another surgery where youre out for another six to nine months," the 30-year-old admitted on UNSCRIPTED by Josh Mansour.

On the same podcast, Kyrgios confirmed his plans to play at the Australian Open in 2026. Then, he was asked whether the 2026 season would be his last.

I dont know yet. Its just hard because I know what it takes to be at that level, and whether or not you can string those days together. Thats whats tough... Ill probably play the Aussie Open in some way. Im not too sure what events Ill play, but I definitely will say goodbye at the Aussie Open at least one more time," Kyrgios explained.
