Mirra Andreeva admits she feels hurt after certain losses but also claims she has also learned to accept that defeats are a common thing in a tennis player's career, and now she is dealing with them in a much healthier way.

After registering a couple of really strong displays on the biggest stage last year and becoming a WTA champion in Iasi, Andreeva started her 2025 season with a bang after winning back-to-back WTA 1000 titles in Dubai and Indian Wells. Those wins came just before the Russian's 18th birthday, and she also broke into the top-10 for the first time in her career in the spring.

Since then, Andreeva has had some deep runs, most notably reaching back-to-back Grand Slam quarterfinals at the French Open and Wimbledon. But those results are far from her expectations as after winning Dubai and Indian Wells, the current world No. 5 openly talked about her desire to win a Grand Slam this year.

Lately, it has been especially tough for Andreeva, who has hit a slight slump and has won only four of her last seven matches. In her last tournament played in Beijing, the Russian was upset by Sonay Kartal in the round-of-16.

Andreeva: You cannot win every match and every tournament

You cannot win every match that you play. You cannot win every tournament that you play. So its kind of a normal thing to lose and obviously sometimes when youre super close to win the match, it hurts a little bit more. It takes a little bit more time to kind of step back and just forget about that. Its just life. Its just how tennis works. And with time, I learned how to kind of accept it and move on from tough losses," the 18-year-old explained in Wuhan.

In the same interview, Andreeva admitted that she has been more open with her psychologist but also coach Conchita Martinez. She also highlighted that as something that has helped her.

Meanwhile, after a first-round bye at the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan, Andreeva plays against Laura Siegemund in her opening match.
