Andrades AEW return on the October 1 episode of Dynamite caught fans off guard, but behind the scenes, things were already in motion long before he took out Kenny Omega and joined the Don Callis Family.
According to Fightful Select, Andrades AEW contract was officially finalized in the last weekbut whats even more interesting is that AEW had already mapped out creative plans for him before the deal was signed. This confirms that the surprise return wasnt just a last-minute callit was a calculated move that AEW had been preparing for, even as final paperwork was still being sorted.
Andrades return came after Omega and Brodido scored a win over The Young Bucks and Josh Alexander. The celebration didnt last, as the Bucks turned on Omega post-match, triggering chaos in the ring. Jack Perry and Luchasaurus tried to help Omega, but tension erupted between Perry and Omega. Then the lights dropped, and Andrade appearedlaying out Omega and staking his claim in AEWs top storyline.
This marked Andrades first televised wrestling appearance since SummerSlam, where he competed in a six-pack TLC tag match with Rey Fenix. WWE never publicly acknowledged his departure, and because his release included no non-compete clause, he was free to sign wherever he wanted immediately. AEW didnt hesitate.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter also pointed out that Andrades return wasnt just about storylineits also about strategy. AEW is aiming to grow its reach in Mexico and sees Andrade as a valuable figure with strong name recognition on Fox Sports Mexico.
Andrade is now locked in, creatively plugged into a top storyline, and positioned as one of AEWs most visible stars with international pull. The timing of the contract confirmation only adds another layer to the planAEW knew exactly what they were doing, and now its full steam ahead.
