Novak Djokovic is on the verge of qualifying for the ATP Finals 18 years after competing at the prestigious event for the first time! However, the seven-time champion is in no rush to confirm his participation in Turin.
The 38-year-old sits third in the ATP Race to Turin ahead of the Shanghai Masters. Thus, the veteran has positioned himself nicely to qualify for the prestigious year-end indoor event.
Despite that, Djokovic revealed that he no longer makes long-term plans, choosing instead to take things week by week and reduce his schedule at this stage of his career.
Speaking about his plans in Shanghai, Novak confirmed his appearance at the ATP 250 event in Athens the week before the ATP Finals, with the Serb looking eager to compete at his new home after moving to Athens in September.
His decision about Turin depends on the upcoming weeks and how his body and motivation feel. Djokovic owns a remarkable 50-18 record at the ATP Finals, standing alone at the top with seven trophies clinched between 2008 and 2023!

His most recent success came in 2023 when he stopped the clock and lifted a prestigious trophy at 36 over the home favorite, Jannik Sinner. Novak could have played in Turin last year as well.

However, he opted to skip the tournament to lighten his schedule and preserve energy in his Major-based schedule. That strategy continues to guide his career management today.
Despite his age, Novak remains among the top contenders on the ATP Tour, representing a model of longevity and discipline.
"I no longer make long-term plans. After Shanghai, the only thing I'm certain of is that I will play in Athens. Then, I will see if I go to Turin. I'm not sure yet, but I hope to compete there again. We will see," Novak Djokovic said.
