WWE is quietly trying to erase a major blunder from last Fridays SmackDown main eventbut fans saw it live, and theyre not letting it go.
During the September 26 episode in Orlando, Tiffany Stratton defended her WWE Womens Championship in a triple threat match against Jade Cargill and Nia Jax. The finish of the match fell apart live on FOX but WWEs official YouTube clip conveniently cuts it out entirely.
The moment in question involved Cargill hitting her Eye of the Storm slam on Jax. The referee began counting, but Strattons dropkick came in late. The ref suddenly stopped the countdespite Jax never kicking out. The crowd caught the mistake instantly and booed loudly as Jax slowly lifted her shoulder and Stratton awkwardly hesitated before continuing the match.
But when WWE uploaded the match to YouTube, the entire botched pin was scrubbed from the footage. In the edited version, Stratton hits the dropkick on Cargill, and the screen flash-pans directly to her climbing the ropes to deliver her Prettiest Moonsault Ever. The referees hesitation, Jaxs delayed kickout, and the visible miscommunication between all three women were completely removed.
So yeahWWE may be able to trim the footage, but fans arent hitting delete on what they watched live. The botch happened, the crowd reacted, and now the internets got the receipts. You can clean up a finish for YouTube, but you cant edit real-time chaos from peoples memories.
