WWE fans watching SmackDown on YouTube TV got an unexpected interruption during the September 26 broadcasta live warning that their favorite show might soon vanish from the platform altogether.

As SmackDown aired live from the Kia Center in Orlando, Florida, a scrolling message appeared specifically for YouTube TV users. The message alerted viewers that USA Network, the home of SmackDown, could soon be pulled from the service due to an unresolved dispute between YouTube TV and NBCUniversal.

This comes after weeks of tension over a new carriage agreement. NBCUniversal reportedly wants better terms and is unwilling to budge on integrating Peacock-exclusive content into YouTube TVs interface. YouTube TV, in turn, is resisting demands that would raise costs for subscribers.

A YouTube spokesperson previously explained the standoff, saying:
NBCUniversal asking us to pay more than what they charge consumers for the same content on Peacock, which would mean less flexibility and higher prices for our subscribers. We are committed to working with NBCUniversal to reach a fair deal for both sides ahead of our current agreement expiring on September 30. If their content is unavailable for an extended period of time, well offer our subscribers a $10 credit.

With WWE Premium Live Events now airing on ESPN, the potential loss of SmackDown through USA Network would be a major blow to YouTube TVs wrestling audience. The warning shown live on September 26 shows just how close the two sides are to a blackoutand how serious the situation has become.
