JeVon Evans has a bright future in WWE at this rate.
The September 26 episode of WWE SmackDown went down at the Kia Center in Orlando, Florida. This was quite a show, and it included another US Open Challenge.
Sami Zayn got permission from John Cena to carry on his legacy of US Open Challenge matches. This week on SmackDown, we saw another impromptu US Title match, and an NXT Superstar jumped up to take the shot.
JeVon Evans has received a lot of praise since bouncing onto the scene in NXT. That saw him make his way to the blue brand this week, and his match was for one of the companys best second tier titles.
Since SmackDown is in Orlando, JeVon Evans was able to make the short trip from the WWE Performance Center for this match. He is also set to take on Josh Briggs at NXT No Mercy tomorrow night at the FTL War Memorial in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
These two brought everything they had for this match, and fans were more than behind the action. The two traded some strikes as they felt each other out, and then they started with some fast-paced action with several near falls.
Fans chanted this is awesome as Sami Zayn caught JeVon Evans with an exploder suplex, but his Helluva Kick was blocked. Then Evans missed a dive, and he dodged to miss another Helluva Kick for Evans to nail an OG Cutter for a very close near fall. Fans were at a fever pitch by this point.
Eventually, Sami Zayn nailed a Helluva Kick and Blue Thunder Bomb to win the match. Although Zayn retained his title, Evans certainly impressed everyone with what he brought to the table.
We will have to see what happens next. At this point, anything is possible in WWE, especially when they have so many choices to add more unique matches.
