Spaniard Carlota Ciganda finished third in the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, an LPGA Tour golf tournament that was reduced to a single 18-hole round due to heavy rains, which left the Pinnacle Country Club course in Rogers in poor condition and unfit for play.

The Pamplona native shot a 7-under-par 64 with seven unerring birdies in the only round that could be played. The Navarre native shared third place with five other players, just one stroke behind American Sarah Schmelzel and Japanese Minami Katsu, who shared first place.

The organizers opted to reduce the tournament to a single round due to the weather forecast for the rest of Sunday and all of Monday and Tuesday.

"It is highly unlikely that the 36 holes required for the event to be played can be completed," they said. Because of this, the tournament will not be official, and no points will be awarded.

The tournament's sponsoring companies, Walmart and P&G, "have generously committed to paying more than what is required in the event of a tournament cancellation. Additionally, they have also committed to ensuring that all players receive compensation, regardless of their position in the standings after 18 holes."

The Rules of Golf are a set of standards and procedures by which the sport of golf should be played. They are jointly written and administered by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the governing body of golf worldwide, except in the United States and Mexico, which are governed by the United States Golf Association. An expert committee composed of members of the R&A and the USGA oversees and refines the rules every four years. The latest revision took effect on January 1, 2016. Amendments to the Rules of Golf are generally divided into two main categories: those that improve understanding and those that reduce penalties in certain cases to ensure balance. The rulebook, entitled "Rules of Golf," is published regularly and also includes rules governing amateur status. In Italy, the Italian Golf Federation is responsible for overseeing competitions by enforcing the rules issued by the R&A, ensuring that these rules are observed by clubs, associations, and their members, and managing the resulting sporting justice, protecting their interests abroad.
