Andy Roddick has a funny take about the Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz US Open mixed doubles partnership as the American tennis legend jokes that the two just wanted to "flirt" with each other.

When the player field was revealed for the revamped US Open mixed doubles format, the pair that instantly stood out and drew the most attention was the one formed by Raducanu and Alcaraz. If you need a context, fans and the public had speculated for quite some time about the Spanish tennis star chasing the 22-year-old Briton.

But unfortunately for Raducanu and Alcaraz, their mixed doubles debut and US Open campaign were short-lived after they lost 2-4 2-4 to Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper in their opening match.

Roddick: Raducanu and Alcaraz just wanted to flirt for an hour

"Looking forward to seeing him play. We saw him play mixed doubles. All right, you know, it's a good good effort. This is a little bit...," Jon Wertheim said on the Served with Andy Rodick.

The 2003 US Open winner funnily added: "I mean, it was. They were, they just wanted to flirt for an hour. Like, what are we doing here? I said it. Whatever. I don't care. I don't care."

On a more serious note, Roddick highlighted that the US Open accomplished their main goal with their changed mixed doubles format since it drew big names and large crowds.

"The exposure of doubles, everything that I've heard for the last 20 years is we have to get eyeballs on doubles. That's the priority. And if that's the priority, then it was mission accomplished at at at the US Open;" Roddick noted.

It will be interesting to see if Raducanu and Alcaraz team up to play mixed doubles at a Grand Slam again in the near future.
