Alex de Minaur enjoyed a thrilling day at the office on the second day of Laver Cup in San Francisco. The Aussie faced world no. 3 Alexander Zverev in the first match of the day and earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory in an hour and 29 minutes.
The Aussie defeated the German for the third time in 11 encounters, the first since the United Cup at the beginning of 2024. Alex erased Team World's deficit, locking the overall score at 3-3.
Alexander, one of the most high-profile Laver Cup players, performed miles below his best. He served at 84% but drew nothing from that, winning under half of the points behind the first serve and suffering four breaks.
De Minaur tamed his strokes nicely and got broken only once, controlling the scoreboard and sealing the deal in style. The German missed a backhand in the second game of the match and experienced an early break.
Feeling the ball nicely, Alex landed a forehand down the line winner in the fourth game for another break of serve and a 4-0 advantage. The Aussie saved a break point in game five and served for the opener at 5-1.

De Minaur held at love with a service winner, wrapping up the first part of the duel in 33 minutes. Alexander saved a break point in the third game of the second set and remained on the positive side.
They served well in the next game and locked the result at 3-3. Zverev sprayed multiple errors in the seventh game, losing serve and falling behind. Alex placed a backhand wide in the eighth game, experiencing the only break and bringing his rival back to 4-4.
Instead of building on that, Alexander netted a backhand in game nine, suffering another break and sending his rival closer to the finish line. The Aussie served for the win at 5-4 and landed a crafty volley to emerge at the top and celebrate a notable win.
