Stefanos Tsitsipas confirms his back has been causing him problems for the past few months but also suggests that certain things outside of tennis happened to him, and that contributed to his rough stretch.
After losing in the French Open second round, Tsitsipas hired Goran Ivanisevic. And after the Greek retired injured in the Wimbledon first round, he was ripped by his coach as "the most unprepared player ever." They separated shortly after that. However, that wasn't the only negative thing that happened during that period as the two-time Grand Slam finalist also called time on his love relationship with Paula Badosa.
During the North American hard-court swing, Tsitsipas appeared in four tournaments but went only 2-4. At the US Open, the former world No. 3 got upset by Daniel Altmaier in a five-set second-round battle.

Tsitsipas: A lot happened outside of matches, something that the public didn't see...
"It wasnt a pleasant US Open, in the sense that I expected to be physically better with the injury and not find myself in that situation. Against Altmaier I needed two medical time-outs at strange moments of the match, something Im not used to. Unexpected things happened to me in these tournaments and in between as well, things the public didnt see, because a lot happened in practice and outside matches," the Greek told SDNA.
This weekend, Tsitsipas will return to action by representing his nation in the Davis Cup. But his back remains an issue.
"Im fighting through my injury right now, trying to find solutions, trying to see specialists, going everywhere to learn as much as possible about what Im going through. I hope to overcome it soon," the former world No. 3 added.

In the same interview, Tsitsipas noted that he is feeling better compared to the North American hard-court swing.
The Greek owns a 21-17 record in 2025 and currently sits at No. 27 in the world.
