Warner Bros. Discovery and AEW have a pretty good relationship, which is whyAEW signed a multi-year deal with them last year. AEW obviously streams their content on HBO Max but now it appears fans might have to deal with a price hike in the future.
While speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, WBD CEO David Zaslav said HBO Max is expected to reach at least 150 million homes worldwide next year, positioning the platform as a major player in the global streaming market alongside Amazon, Netflix, Disney, and YouTube.
Zaslav explained that because of the high quality of the companys films, TV productions, and streaming content, HBO Max plans to raise its subscription prices over time. He added that the service is currently way underpriced and that price increases will be gradual.
As of now, HBO Max offers a Basic with Ads plan for $9.99 per month and an ad-free Premium plan for $20.99 per month. However, David Zaslav clearly believes the service delivers enough value that prices can eventually go higher.
This also comes after it was confirmed that AEW pay-per-views will be available on HBO Max starting from All Out, at an exclusive discounted price of $39.99.
For now, AEW fans can keep enjoying discounted pay-per-views and top-quality wrestling content on HBO Max, but higher subscription fees are likely coming. As WBD pushes to stay competitive with major streaming platforms, a price increase seems almost inevitable.
