WWEs upcoming WrestlePalooza Premium Live Event on September 20 is shaping up to be one of the companys biggest shows of the yearand its no coincidence.
This will mark WWEs first-ever PLE to air live on ESPN, and the company is reportedly planning to load up the card with major matches, returns, and storyline payoffs to make it stand out from the rest.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained that WWE always treats their first events on new platforms like major showcases. Theyre definitely gonna peak. This is not your normal monthly pay-per-view at all that theyre running on that show, Meltzer said, pointing to past examples like SmackDowns FOX debut and the upcoming RAW launch on Netflix. They always pull stuff out. And you know, thisll be this Im sure will be no different.
He also teased the return of AJ Lee, noting that shes been heavily discussed behind the scenes. I gotta think that theyre not going this far without the [AJ Lee] deal already made, Meltzer added. That return could tie directly into the CM Punk and Seth Rollins feud, especially after Becky Lynchs shocking alignment with The Vision at Clash in Paris. Meltzer said the segment with Punk and Lynch on RAW was outstanding, and that it raised the stakes for a potential AJ Lee return way bigger than I wouldve thought otherwise.
Brock Lesnar is also locked in for WrestlePalooza, as previously confirmed. His involvement alone brings star power to the card, but WWE appears to be stacking it even further. The teased Usos reunionafter Jimmy Uso saved Jey from a beatdown on RAWcould set up a tag match with Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. And with Naomi vacating the Womens World Title, WWE has already announced that IYO SKY and Stephanie Vaquer will face off for the vacant championship in Indianapolis.
Between potential comebacks, high-profile matches, and crossover stars, WWE looks set to treat WrestlePalooza as more than just another stop on the calendar. Its a launchpad for the ESPN eraand its going to be big.
