Joao Fonseca is through into the second round at the US Open. The young Brazilian faced Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round at Grandstand and earned a 7-6, 7-6, 6-3 victory in two hours and 26 minutes.

Thus, the 19-year-old completed a quartet of victories at all four Majors, achieving a notable streak in his first season on the biggest tennis stage. At 19 years and seven days, Joao joined legends on a notable list.

Fonseca became the seventh-youngest player with a win at all four Majors in a season, following Carlos Alcaraz on that list and passing Rafael Nadal by two months.

Kecmanovic had his chances in the opening two sets. The Serb led 5-2 in the first set and stood two points away from taking the second. However, a teenager claimed the pivotal points and sealed the deal with four straight games in set number three.

Joao played better behind the second serve and saved two of three break points. He generated nine break opportunities and provided four breaks to seal the deal in straight sets.

The Serb made a stronger start and grabbed a break at 15 in the sixth game when his rival netted a backhand. Miomir denied two break points in the seventh game and cemented the advantage.

Kecmanovic served for the set in game nine and sprayed a backhand error to keep Fonseca in contention. The set went into a tie break, and Joao moved 3-0 in front with a couple of winners.

Miomir pulled the mini-breaks back in the sixth point before the Brazilian grabbed four straight points to take the breaker 7-3. They traded early breaks in the second set.

Fonseca denied a break point in the ninth game with a forehand down the line winner and created a set point on the return at 6-5. Kecmanovic saved it and introduced another tie break.

Joao missed a forehand in the fourth point and fell 5-2 behind. The Brazilian pulled the mini-break back in the tenth point and drew the rival's mistake for 6-5 and a set point.

The young gun landed a volley winner, wrapping up the set in style after rattling off five games and moving closer to the finish line after an hour and 47 minutes.

They served well in the first six games of the third set. Miomir experienced a break in the seventh game and fell behind. Fonseca fired an ace in the eighth game and made another push on the return at 5-3.

The Serb faced a match point and hit a double fault, sending his rival over the top.
