Sara Errani said before the start of this year's US Open mixed doubles tournament that her goal was to avenge all the doubles players who were denied a chance to play at Flushing Meadows this year, and then dedicated the title to her colleagues after completing a triumphant run.

On the opening day of the tournament, Errani and her partner Andrea Vavassori clinched two very notable wins after beating Elena Rybakina & Taylor Fritz, and Karolina Muchova & Andrey Rublev. Since it was only a two-day event, the Italian pair returned to the court and Tuesday and firstly defeated Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison 4-2 4-2, before overcoming Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud 6-3 5-7 10-6.

And after beating a few teams consisting of notable singles stars, the 38-year-old Italian - who heavily criticized the US Open organizers after they changed the mixed doubles format - had something she wanted to say.

I think this one is for all the doubles players that couldnt play this tournament. I think this one is also for them," Errani said during her trophy speech.

Vavassori also sent a powerful message

30-year-old Vavassori, a former world No. 128 in singles, is now mainly focused on the doubles, where he is ranked at No. 13. He has won four titles in men's doubles this year, along with three mixed doubles titles.

We showed today that doubles is a great product. I think in the future we need more marketing and visibility. I think this product is something that can also work in the future. It was amazing to play on this court with so many people. I have to say thanks from the bottom of my heart for the atmosphere," Vavassori noted.
