WWE might be preparing to bring back one of its most recognizable creations from the pandemic era.
On August 15, WWE filed a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the term WWE Thunderdome, sparking fresh speculation that something virtual may be brewing behind the scenes.
The WWE Thunderdome was introduced in 2020 as a solution to keep the live-show energy alive during COVID lockdowns. Featuring hundreds of fans watching via screens, the Thunderdome allowed virtual audiences to experience Monday Night RAW, SmackDown, and pay-per-views like never before.
Now, it appears WWE might be revisiting the concept or at least preparing to use the name again for something major. The trademark description makes that clear, outlining services that go beyond traditional wrestling programming.
But it doesnt stop there. The filing also lists services including virtual reality simulators, live digital communication, fan portals, and online communities for viewers to interact while watching events:
While WWE hasnt officially confirmed any plans to bring back the Thunderdome format, this trademark filing definitely opens the door for something in the digital or virtual space.
