WWE may have canceled its SummerSlam weekend comedy event with Tony Hinchcliffe, but that doesnt mean the relationship is over.
According to a new update from Fightful Select, WWE is still open to working with Hinchcliffe in the future. Despite the cancellation, the companys relationship with the comedian is said to remain positive, suggesting theres potential for future collaboration down the line.
The WWE Late Night Featuring Tony Hinchcliffe event was originally scheduled for Saturday, August 2 at 11 PM ET at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, New Jersey. It was set to feature a night of stand-up comedy with WWE Superstars and surprise appearances. Unlike the Roast of WrestleMania, which sparked mixed reactions backstage earlier this year, this event wasnt being promoted as a roast.
Cody Rhodes was the only WWE name officially advertised before the event was called off. PWInsider reported that ticket sales were described as light, and a source at the venue confirmed that WWE pulled the show themselves rather than move forward with underwhelming momentum.
Internally, some in WWE werent too enthusiastic about the idea to begin with, and there was reportedly a sense of relief that the company wasnt repeating the WrestleMania roast format.
Still, WWEs willingness to keep Hinchcliffe in their orbit suggests they havent given up on exploring comedy-themed events entirelyeven if this one didnt go as planned.
Should WWE continue testing comedy nights with Superstars, or is it time they stick to what they know best? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
