Marcus Morris Sr. was arrested Sunday at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on a felony charge out of Nevada, but his camp says the situation isnt nearly as serious as it sounds.

The former Clippers forward was taken into custody for writing a check with insufficient funds, according to Broward County Sheriffs Office records. The 35-year-old was held without bond and had an extradition hearing scheduled for Monday, per the county Clerk of Courts.

But both Morris twin brother and longtime agent are pushing back on how the arrest has been portrayed publicly.

Markieff Morris, who finished last season with the Lakers, responded on social media saying the narrative had been twisted.

The wording is crazy, Markieff wrote. Damn for that amount of money theyll embarrass you in the airport with your family. They got yall really thinking bro did some fraud s. They could have came to the crib for all that. When yall hear the real story on this s man. All I can say is Lesson learned. Bro will tell yall tomorrow.

Agent Tony Noy, who represents both brothers through LAA Partners, added further context, saying the charge stems from an unpaid casino debt.

Just so everyone understands this is zero fraud here or whatever crap outlets have said regarding fake checks or whatever the hell, Noy wrote. This is due to an outstanding marker with a casino. Apparently if you have over $1,200 they can issue a warrant for your arrest. Absolute insanity!

Morris spent 11 years in the NBA, including a four-season stint with the Clippers from 2019 to 2023. He also suited up for the Suns, Pistons, Celtics, Rockets, Knicks, 76ers and Cavaliers.
