WWE is stacking the deck with legends to pay tribute to Hulk Hogan on tonights SmackDown and now another major name has been added to the lineup.
According to PWInsider.com, WWE Hall of Famer Sgt. Slaughter is confirmed to appear at the taping. Slaughter famously wrestled Hogan in the main event of WrestleMania 7, making his presence tonight a fitting nod to their historic rivalry.
This update adds to the list of confirmed legends flying in to help honor the man who helped bring pro wrestling into the mainstream spotlight. It was previously reported that WWE had been reaching out to multiple Hall of Famers and close Hogan allies to appear or film tribute segments.
The tribute comes amid heartbreaking new details surrounding Hogans final days. Wrestling Observer Newsletter revealed that the 71-year-old icon underwent neck surgery on May 14, which led to major complications including renal failure and severe COPD. Doctors ultimately set up a hospital unit in his Clearwater home after determining there was little more they could do.
Emergency crews were called to Hogans residence on July 24 for cardiac arrest. He was stretchered out and later pronounced dead.
Tonights tribute is shaping up to be a heartfelt farewell, and with names from Hogans past showing up to pay their respects, its expected to be an emotional night.
