Britt Baker became the center of internet speculation today after Jonathan Coachman claimed she was gone from AEWclose to signing with WWE. The comment, made during Behind the Turnbuckle, sent fans into overdriveuntil reality quickly stepped in.
Coachman initially teased a top female talent heading to WWE. When a co-host guessed Britt Baker, he confirmed it outright.
He went on to say Baker was ready for WWE, and suggested her AEW status took a dive because she spoke up backstage.
But within hours, Fightful Select poured cold water on the entire story. Their report stated that Britt Baker is still very much under contract with AEWand will be for a while.
Adding to that, a WWE source told Fightful that there havent been any recent talks with Baker, though they acknowledged shes always welcome backstage.
As of now, there are no confirmed creative plans for Baker in either promotion, and todays headlines seem to have jumped the gun based on speculation rather than facts.
If Britt Baker really is thinking about a WWE jump, shes got a lot more than buzz to deal with. With over a year left on her AEW contractplus possible injury timeshed need to formally request her release, and AEW would have to actually grant it. Thats a big if in a company thats been holding tight to top-tier talent. For now, it looks like this ones all smoke and no fire at least until someone lights the fuse.
