WWE Evolution 2 is officially set for July 13, 2025, live from Atlanta, Georgia. But while fans are expecting a celebration of womens wrestling, the internal reaction within WWE hasnt exactly been full of excitement.
According to Fightful Select, most of the women on WWEs roster werent even told about the show in advance. In fact, they reportedly learned about it at the same time as the general public. The report notes, Almost every member of the WWE womens roster told us that they officially learned of the show when it was announced publicly.
While some top names and at least one WWE legend were given a heads-upand one may even be bookedothers werent thrilled by how the rollout was handled. Several wrestlers saw the announcement as another example of the company treating the womens division differently, referencing the original Evolution event in 2018. Some talent pointed to the curtain call group hug moment at the end of that show as something WWE wouldnt have asked the mens roster to do.
Theres also concern that the event is being set up to fail. Internally, some fear that if the show underperformsespecially since its taking place the same night as a Beyonc concert in the same cityWWE could use that as a reason to not bring Evolution back in the future. Rising hotel costs and expected traffic issues were also mentioned by some as potential excuses WWE could point to if numbers disappoint.
One top name wasnt convinced the event was necessary at all, noting the already packed PLE calendar and questioning what the company would actually do with the show. On the other hand, a respected veteran in the locker room viewed Evolution 2 as a chance to showcase talent who havent had regular opportunities on TV. That same veteran expressed hope that legends would be integrated with newer talent in a meaningful way, but emphasized that WWE would need to truly support the event behind the scenes to make it work.
Despite the split reactions, WWE appears to be going full steam ahead. WrestleVotes has stated that the company plans to stack the card as much as possible, even reaching out to available talent not signed to competing promotions. The event is expected to include seven to eight matches and a battle royal, with crossovers from TNA and AAA very likely thanks to WWEs working relationships.
The concept of Evolution returning should be a huge win for womens wrestlingbut backstage, the sentiment seems to be more cautious than celebratory.
