Eddie Kingston could be on the verge of a return to AEWand all signs point to Double or Nothing being the stage for it.
The Anarchy in the Arena match is officially a six-on-six war, with Kenny Omega, Swerve Strickland, Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs, Katsuyori Shibata, and Willow Nightingale set to battle Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, Marina Shafir, and The Young Bucks. But the numbers might not be locked.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote, There was a big brawl at the end of the show that included Gabe Kidd being involved for a second week in a row on Moxleys team, which led to speculation it could change to a seven-on-seven match.
Meltzer added that even if the bout stays six-on-six, there will be interference from Kidd almost for sure, which would also likely lead to someone making the save, with Kingstons timing of a return making him the one most speculated on. It would make sense if he was ready.
Kingston hasnt been seen since suffering a broken leg after being suplexed onto a barricade by Gabe Kidd. That moment was considered the turning point in his current storyline and physical setback. Just as a note, the last word we had about an Eddie Kingston return from his broken leg was May, Meltzer explained. Gabe Kidd showing up could end up being the catalyst its a natural spot for a return.
Theres no official word from AEW, and Meltzer mentioned that secrecy is part of the playbook here. Weve heard nothing in that direction as it would be something theyd keep quiet if it was happening, but it does make sense and unless there was a delay, Kingstons return should be soon.
Everything lines up: the injury, the storyline thread, and the chaos of Anarchy in the Arena. Whether its a surprise run-in or a full-blown addition to the match, Eddie Kingston may be about to change the tone of Double or Nothing in a major way.
