Chael Sonnen is returning to his wrestling rootsthis time with a microphone in hand.

The outspoken former UFC title contender has officially signed on as a commentator and analyst for Real American Freestyle Wrestling, the new promotion co-founded by Hulk Hogan, Eric Bischoff, and wrestling coach Israel Izzy Martinez.

Set to debut on August 30 in Cleveland, Real American Freestyle Wrestling aims to bring a spotlight back to competitive freestyle wrestlingand Sonnen will be front and center calling the action live.

Sonnen brings real credentials to the role. Before making his name in MMA, he was a standout amateur wrestler at the University of Oregon, earning All-American honors and placing twice as PAC-10 runner-up. He also won a silver medal at the 2000 Greco-Roman World University Championships and captured gold twice at the Dave Schultz Memorial Greco-Roman tournament.

Hes no stranger to the spotlight either. Sonnens crossover with pro wrestling goes back to 2014, when he accompanied Colby Covington to the Octagon with none other than Hulk Hogan by his side. Since retiring from MMA in 2019, Sonnen has stayed busyfounding Submission Underground, growing his massive YouTube following, and working as a lead analyst for ESPNs UFC coverage.

With Sonnen joining the booth, Real American Freestyle just got a serious credibility boostand some serious personality to match.
