The Twitter account for Queen of the Ring, a biopic about wrestling pioneer Mildred Burke, is catching heat for lashing out at fans in a series of unprofessional and insulting responses. Instead of focusing on promoting the film, the account has been busy trading barbs with users all while making accusations against WWE for alleged sabotage.
The controversy started when the account claimed WWE tried to block their ads from airing during Monday Night Raw and backed out of a sponsorship deal after terms were agreed upon. You should ask them why they tried to block us from running TV ads during Raw (illegal), why they asked us to sponsor their events, we agreed to the financial deal then they pulled us out last minute, the account tweeted, adding, This is just a glimpse into the sabotaging behavior perhaps we will expand on the intel.
But it didnt end there. Instead of redirecting attention to the films release, the account continued to fire back at fans with insults.
One fan made a lighthearted jab about wrestling being staged, writing, I love that line: I dont trust the referee. What? You mean the guy who is acting the role of referee while you act out the skit of the wrestling match? lol. The Queen of the Ring account snapped back, t was a shoot match ya bum. Look it up.
Another user expressed frustration over what they perceived as the films predictable portrayal of a strong female lead, saying, Oh good. Another girl boss that can defeat any man she wants, is always right and is constantly the underdog. sigh The response? how does your daughter feel about your disdain for strong women?
Things got even nastier when a fan questioned the movies marketing, accusing it of exaggerating the truth for dramatic effect. The Queen of the Ring account hit back with, Her son becomes her coach you mutant.
The aggressive tone from the official account has some fans questioning the professionalism behind the films marketing. Instead of taking the opportunity to promote the movie, the account is doubling down with insults and condescending remarks.
Do you think the Queen of the Ring account is hurting the films image with these outbursts, or is this all part of the strategy to stir up controversy? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
