Braun Strowmans WWE exit on May 2, 2025, wasnt just about cutting costs.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the decision to release Strowman came down to a combination of his high salary and ongoing injury problems.
Strowmans release was said to be a combination of his high salary and injuries, Meltzer reported. The former Universal Champion had been struggling physically since returning from a significant hamstring injury, and his in-ring performance didnt match the paycheck WWE was handing out.
One source noted that Strowmans injury was more severe than most people realized. He had not been moving well in the ring since coming back from a major hamstring injury, Meltzer continued. One person there noted to us that he was hurt worse than people realized.
Strowmans backstage reputation may have played a role as well. After his 2022 return, sources within WWE claimed he had developed a habit of showing up late and leaving early, leading some to question his dedication. Those concerns reportedly persisted, making the decision to release him easier for the company to justify.
Despite the release, veteran wrestling journalist Bill Apter recently shared that Strowman could still make a WWE comeback. I heard that it was not an angry break, and if they call him six months or a year down the road, We need you for three or four months, he would be willing to do it again. The door is open, Apter said.
Strowmans last WWE appearance came on the April 18, 2025, episode of SmackDown, where he teamed with LA Knight to defeat Jacob Fatu and Solo Sikoa. Now, with his 90-day non-compete clause in effect, it remains unclear where the former champion will end up next.
