Randy Orton has a message for the person who kicked off the viral RKO Outta Nowhere trend dinners on him.
During a recent interview with Billboard, Orton opened up about the internet sensation that took his signature move to a whole new level.
Whoever started that trend, man, I would love to buy them a steak dinner, Orton said. I just look at it like Im lucky. Right place, right time. I had great fans. I met Logan Paul for the first time, and its funny because he was a wrestling fan, but I dont think he was following it quite as much but he was aware of what the RKO was. Thats what he told me when I first met him, and I thought that was pretty funny.
Orton reminisced about how the trend took off back in the early 2010s, thanks to the short-lived Vine app. Its kind of like transcended wrestling and me and became a thing of its own, Orton continued. Kids started editing videos of me RKOing everybody. Whether it was maybe a toddler that fell over or someone at the altar getting married, anyone taking a bump out there, theyd put a little Randy Orton RKO out of nowhere, and it became a thing.
The viral sensation can be traced back to Brandon Bowlin, who in 2014 created a Vine video editing Orton into clips of people falling or getting hurt. The meme exploded in popularity, making Ortons RKO one of the most iconic finishers in WWE history.
Now, Orton just wants to meet the mastermind behind the trend and show his appreciation with a steak dinner. Considering how the meme made Orton a household name beyond just wrestling fans, its easy to see why hes so grateful.
