Another major match is now official for WWE Backlash, and its one that fans have been waiting for.
During the second hour of WWE Raw on May 5, 2025, Michael Cole made a surprise announcement: Penta will face Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship at WWE Backlash.
Penta, known for his unrelenting aggression and lucha-based offense, will get another crack at singles gold on the WWE main roster. On the other side, Dominik Mysterio has been doing everything he can to hold onto that Intercontinental Title by any means necessaryand now hes got one of his biggest threats to date.
The Intercontinental Title bout adds to an already stacked Backlash card, which also features a major fatal four-way for the United States Championship. On SmackDown, General Manager Nick Aldis changed the original triple threat involving Jacob Fatu, LA Knight, and Damian Priest by adding Drew McIntyre after Solo Sikoas complaints. No, you are, Aldis fired back when Solo accused him of trying to screw Fatu.
But all eyes are now on Penta vs. Dominik, which could easily steal the show on May 11 in St. Louis.
WWE Backlash takes place on Sunday, May 11, 2025, from the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri. The premium live event will stream exclusively on Peacock in the U.S. and WWE Network internationally. As a reminder, Ringside News will have live play-by-play coverage of the event.
