EmailPrintOpen Extended ReactionsFOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Just as the New England Patriots welcomed back top receiver A.J. Brown from injured reserve, they've lost another top receiver, Romeo Doubs, to a shoulder injury. The club officially placed Doubs on injured reserve Monday, one day after he landed hard on his right shoulder while making a diving 42-yard touchdown catch in a 26-19 win over the New York Jets. Doubs, who left the game after the touchdown and didn't return, has 14 receptions for 261 yards and three touchdowns this season, his first in New England. He will miss at least the next four games, beginning Thursday night when the Patriots (4-2) visit the Chicago Bears (4-2) at Soldier Field. New England then visits the Miami Dolphins and hosts the Green Bay Packers before facing the Detroit Lions in Munich. Their bye week follows.Injuries have been a defining characteristic of the Patriots' 2026 campaign, beginning in the spring when they lost No. 2 tight end Julian Hill to a season-ending knee injury. Others placed on IR during the season include starting right guard Mike Onwenu (ankle), his replacement, Greg Van Roten (hip), No. 3 offensive tackle Marcus Bryant (ankle), starting fullback Reggie Gilliam (ankle/knee), receiver Mack Hollins (calf) and punter Bryce Baringer (lower body). On Sunday against the Jets, the Patriots had been looking forward to having Doubs paired with Brown, as they had only played two-plus quarters together before Brown suffered a high right ankle sprain in the season opener. Brown was activated from IR on Saturday. The Patriots invested heavily in both this offseason to give quarterback Drake Maye a new top of the receiver depth chart, sending a 2028 first-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for Brown and giving Doubs, the former Packer, a four-year, $68 million contract as an unrestricted free agent.Brown, Pop Douglas, Efton Chism III and Kyle Williams are the receivers on the current 53-man roster. The team also signed former Dolphins receiver Ryan Miller to its practice squad Monday, joining three other receivers -- Chandler Brayboy (first year, Elon), Kyle Dixon (rookie, Culver-Stockton) and Cameron Dorner (rookie, North Texas).
