EmailPrintOpen Extended ReactionsINGLEWOOD, Calif. -- Arizona Cardinals kicker Chad Ryland received a rare, early-morning gameday text message from his mom Sunday. A week after Ryland missed a 53-yard field goal try against the Detroit Lions, she just wanted to tell him to have a good game, to trust his process and command the field.Ryland took his mom's words to heart. The 27-year-old kicked six field goals, including a game-winning 43-yarder as time expired, to lift Arizona to an 18-16 win over the Rams at SoFi Stadium that marked the biggest upset in the NFL this season.Ryland became the first kicker this season to make six field goals in a game. Afterward, he said he wasn't sure if he ever had a game that he impacted as much as Sunday's. His 18 points were the most points by a Cardinal who was responsible for all of the team's points since Ernie Nevers' 40 in 1929.And for as grateful as coach Mike LaFleur was for those efforts, he said he hopes he doesn't see them again any time soon."I never want to see six kicks again unless they're extra points," LaFleur quipped after the game. "But if you're going to kick it, you might as well make it. And very happy for those guys."The Rams seemingly had the game won when tight end Colby Parkinson caught a touchdown pass with 47 seconds left to put them up, 16-15. But it also gave Arizona plenty of time on the clock to operate. On the ensuing drive, Jacoby Brissett hit wide receiver Jalen Brooks with a 21-yard pass. An unnecessary roughness penalty on the Rams added yardage after that catch and flipped the field from the Cardinals' 35 to the Rams' 29."Deep down, I thought we were going to win when we had (47 seconds left)," LaFleur said. "I just believed in these guys and the way it was going for these guys today. And I thought Jacoby was excellent all day in terms of timing and accuracy and putting it where it needed to be and came up with his best throw at the end."Ryland then hit his sixth and final field goal to give Arizona its second win of the season, both coming at SoFi Stadium. (It beat the Los Angeles Chargers there in Week 1.) It snapped the Cardinals' eight-game losing streak against the NFC West."Man, how crazy was that? Once they jumped offsides [the second penalty on the Brooks play that Arizona declined] and I saw J.B. catch it, I'm like, 'We're going to win,'" Brissett said of the game-winning touchdown drive. "And just the supreme confidence in that group, they've been good all year for us."Obviously, today we leaned on them a lot, especially in the red zone and they stepped up and capitalized on every opportunity that they had. And man, what a walk off right there. It's pretty crazy."Ryland's six field goals are a career high and are tied for the second most in a game in Cardinals history (Jim Bakken had seven in 1967). According to ESPN Research, the18 points were the most by an Arizona kicker since Week 14 of 2010, when Jay Feely scored 25 against the Denver Broncos -- when Ryland was 11.Sunday was the Cardinals' fifth win since 2000 without scoring a touchdown, which is tied with the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers for the most over that span.It also helped the Cardinals, who entered the game as 13.5-point underdogs, pull off the biggest upset of the NFL season based on point spread; they became the only second double-digit underdog to win in the last two seasons (the Green Bay Packers lost as 13-point favorites to the Carolina Panthers in Week 9 last season).
