EmailPrintOpen Extended ReactionsENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- As Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton answered question after question about the team's offensive struggles Wednesday, including on quarterback Bo Nix's play and the possible solutions for it, he arrived at a bottom line: "Certainly this isn't championship football, what we see.''The Broncos (2-2) rank near the bottom of the league in scoring (27th), total yards per game (27th), rushing yards per game (29th), passing yards per game (20th), QBR (23rd) and Offensive EPA (22nd).As the queries about the offense came, Payton said, "I was having a good Wednesday, I felt like I was having a good Wednesday.''He was asked about the first four games with offensive coordinator Davis Webb as the play-caller and whether that was a big enough sample size for Payton to determine if he needs to call plays again, as he had done throughout his tenure as an NFL head coach before this season."I think our focus needs to be more on the specific and the detail of each play regardless (of who's calling the plays),'' Payton said. "I think Davis is very fast, very quick and understands what we're doing. I think that the most important job I have is really evaluating the whys. I think collectively, we all, after a game, and after a four-game sample size, certainly this isn't championship football, what we see. How quickly can we correct those things?''Nix is 22nd in the league in QBR (46.1) and 27th in average air yards per attempt (5.9). The lack of big plays on offense overall has become a four-game trend; the Broncos are 29th in plays of 20-or-more yards and 30th in explosive plays with 16 (runs of at least 10 yards, pass plays of at least 20 yards). In Sunday's 24-14 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, running back RJ Harvey led Denver in both targets (10) and receptions (10) as he averaged 6.8 yards per catch.Payton said Wednesday he believes it all tracks to "the details, the little things,'' rather than some substantial shift in approach on offense.Wide receiver Courtland Sutton, who has nine catches combined in four games, said Wednesday he believes Nix has taken an unfair amount of outside criticism so far this season."We all got our hand in it,'' Sutton said. "... We all have our hand in this pot ... He's not the only one out there when we go play ... we all have accountability.''Said Nix: "You don't want to listen to too many things, the noise, that's not going to do anything for you. You want to make sure you're listening to your coaches, your teammates, the people who are actually trying to make you better and understand a little more of what's going on and that sort of thing. For me, it's all about who you're giving your attention to.''
