Anthony Edwards sounds more than ready to give up some of his ballhandling responsibilities.The Minnesota Timberwolves star made it clear at media day that he is excited to play alongside new point guard LaMelo Ball, particularly because it will allow Edwards to return to what he considers his natural position.I feel like Im a natural two guard at heart, Edwards said, according to ESPN. I never thought I could develop any point guard skills. I know [coach Chris Finch] harps on me passing the ball, but now we got LaMelo, so Im happy.Minnesota acquired Ball from the Charlotte Hornets this offseason in a deal that sent Naz Reid and Julius Randle out as part of a major roster shake-up.Edwards believes having Ball control the offense could also make a significant difference on the defensive end, where carrying such a large offensive workload has taken its toll in recent seasons.The last couple years I couldnt play defense as well as I wanted to because I was bringing the ball up, Edwards said. At times, I had to score all the time. I was super tired, but now I got LaMelo, I got point guards. So, I dont really got to bring it up at all. I can go to the corner for three, four plays in a row and just guard the best players. This year Im going to be great in my game a lot differently.Ball is already building a relationship with Edwards after spending the first six seasons of his career in Charlotte.Really, we got the same personality, Ball said of him and Ant. Cool, confident, outgoing. Thats my brother and I think were going to be straight.Edwards is coming off a career-best 28.8 points per game while shooting 48 percent from the field across 61 appearances.Despite losing Reid, who Edwards described as his brother, the 25-year-old is embracing Minnesotas new direction.Im going to miss Naz for sure, thats my brother, Edwards said. But Im super happy about the changes in the locker room. Just a bunch of different mentalities, personalities.
