Each has raised his compete level as the playoffs have gone on, and they'll hope to avenge their one-goal loss in last year's PLL Championship -- when they lost by just one goal to the Atlas.In each of the past six seasons (aside from 2023 when he was injured), goalie Logan McNaney has led his team to the championship game: 2021 NCAA (loss to Virginia), 2022 NCAA (win over Cornell), 2024 NCAA (loss to Notre Dame), 2025 NCAA (loss to Cornell), 2025 PLL (loss to the Atlas), 2026 PLL (Sunday).Mike Manley has had a career that will one day put him in the Hall of Fame. But the one thing he's yet to win: a PLL championship. Manley enters this game second on the all-time list of most games played without a championship (145), trailing only Adam Ghitelman (146).WaterdogsIn 2025, CJ Kirst set the NCAA Division 1 goals record in his senior year at Cornell, leading the team to its first national title since 1977. Kirst broke the PLL single-season goals record this year, and is a finalist for league MVP and attackman of the year. Will he also lead the Waterdogs to a championship?While Kirst was busy breaking the goals record, Michael Sowers led the PLL in scoring this season. Like Kirst, he is also an MVP finalist, and will be a critical part of the Waterdogs' attack on Sunday too.The Dogs will have rookie Sean Byrne in the crease, and since 2001 only three rookie goalies have backstopped their teams to a title in the MLL/PLL: Brett Queener (2008 Rochester Rattlers), Doc Schneider (2009 Toronto Nationals) and Jack Kelly (2016 Denver Outlaws). Notably, Outlaws goalie Logan McNaney was a rookie goalie in last year's title game (a loss to the Atlas).
