Leeds continued their unbeaten start to the Premier League season with an emphatic 4-1 win over Newcastle on Monday night football. Daniel Farkes men blew the Magpies away with three quickfire goals towards the end of the first half, the first a Sean Steur own goal off Ao Tanakas shot, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin grabbing the other two.Noah Okafors volley put Leeds in command shortly after the break, with Bazoumana Toure grabbing a consolation for the visitors.Leeds were still able to see out a comprehensive win which took them up to fourth, also inflicting a first defeat of the season on Newcastle.Table of ContentsLeeds run riot in first halfLeeds dominance continuesLeeds run riot in first halfThe hosts made a fast start when Anton Stach found his way into the box but opted to find Dominic Calvert-Lewin instead shooting, with the visitors able to clear. Leeds were then denied a penalty when the ball struck Mathias Fernandez-Pardos hand, but officials and VAR declared that it was accidental from the summer signing which may well go down as another controversy from this weekend after Sundays events at Old Trafford.Lukas Hornicek was then forced into a top save to stop Jaden Bogles clever reverse finish as the Whites continued to pile on the pressure in the first half.There were still some nervy moments for the hosts though, with James Trafford who almost joined Newcastle last summer twice took too long on the ball and almost allowed Yoane Wissa to pounce.Leeds took a deserved lead when Ao Tanakas effort found the back of the net after his initial shot took a huge double deflection off Lewis Miley and Stach, leaving the Newcastle defence and goalkeeper helpless as the ball floated into the net.Daniel Farkes side doubled their advantage just two minutes later, with Calvert-Lewin rising highest to power Jaden Bogles inviting cross beyond the Newcastle goalkeeper. The strikers trademark aerial prowess gave Leeds a commanding advantage and left the hosts with a mountain to climb.Calvert-Lewin was not finished there, adding a third before the interval to complete a first-half brace. The forward brushed off a weak challenge from Sven Botman after Leeds sent a simple ball over the top, before calmly slotting his finish into the net.Leeds dominance continuesAfter the break, Newcastle had a few moments to try and assert a bit more authority back into the game, with Lewis Hall going close with a shot.But in truth, those moments were too rare and Leeds had their fourth when a long throw-in was cleared only as far as Okafor, who volleyed the ball in first time to continue a stunning performance by the hosts.It was the sort of dominance the Elland Road crowd have rarely seen in the Premier League, with this the first time Leeds have had a 4-0 lead since all the way back in 2001.It was difficult to see how the Magpies could find a way back into the game but it looked likely to come through Wissa, who was their brightest spark on the night. The Congolese striker flashed a good ball across the face of goal, before Harvey Barnes saw a penalty appear waved away.They were finally able to celebrate a goal in the final few minutes, with Toure ending Leeds hopes of a clean sheet with Tarik Muharemovics mistake allowing the youngster to score his first Toon goal.
