EmailPrintOpen Extended ReactionsFRISCO, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys are waiving running back Jaydon Blue, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.Blue, a fifth-round pick in 2025, entered training camp as the No. 2 running back behind Javonte Williams, but Malik Davis won the position with a strong camp. The Cowboys have also waived Phil Mafah, per source, which leaves Isael Abanikanda as the third tailback. Fullback Hunter Luepke in the group as well.In the preseason, Blue, who dealt with a shoulder injury for a few days of camp, had 23 carries for a team-high 94 yards and also caught two passes for 15 yards. If he clears waivers, he is eligible for the practice squad.After a disappointing rookie season in which he was inactive for 12 games and had just 38 carries for 129 yards and a touchdown, Blue's growth in maturity was lauded by coach Brian Schottenheimer. Ultimately, however, it was not enough to keep him on the 53-man roster at the start of the season even with his speed and potential big-play ability.Williams ran for 1,201 yards and 11 touchdowns last season, both career highs. Like 2025, Williams did not get a carry in the preseason in order to go into the regular season Sept. 13 against the New York Giants fresh.Davis finished with 68 yards on 12 carries and caught one pass for an 8-yard touchdown. Taking over the No. 2 running back in midseason a year ago, he finished with 250 yards on 52 carries and two touchdowns. He had two 100-yard games. He can also play on the four major special teams' units.
