Jonathan Kuminga has agreed to a two-year, $12.4 million deal with the Timberwolves, including a player option for the second season, his agent Aaron Turner told ESPNs Shams Charania.Minnesota had been aggressively pursuing Kuminga over the past month, with Anthony Edwards reportedly playing an active role in recruiting him.Timberwolves president Tim Connelly also traveled to Miami for a four-hour meeting with Kuminga, while head coach Chris Finch held discussions with the former Warriors forward, according to Charania.The Timberwolves offered more than money. Kuminga is expected to have an opportunity to start at power forward alongside Edwards, LaMelo Ball, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert.Kuminga also had interest elsewhere, most notably from the Lakers. Los Angeles offered him more than $12 million annually across three years in a potential sign-and-trade, but Kuminga instead chose Minnesotas shorter contract and the flexibility to potentially return to free agency next summer, according to Charania.The Lakers had pursued Kuminga heavily, with general manager Rob Pelinka holding multiple discussions with Hawks general manager Onsi Saleh.However, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Kuminga were unable to find a sign-and-trade structure that worked for all sides.Golden State re-signed him to a two-year, $46.8 million contract last offseason following drawn-out negotiations before eventually trading him to Atlanta for Kristaps Porzingis in February.Kuminga helped the Hawks secure the Eastern Conferences sixth seed and averaged 13.7 points in 26 minutes per game during their six-game first-round loss to the Knicks. Atlanta later declined his $24.3 million team option.Now, Kuminga gets another fresh start with a team he has previously performed extremely well against.
