Klay Thompson is officially heading to Miami after signing a two-year, $13 million deal with the Heat after clearing waivers on Sunday, according to ESPN. The contract also includes a player option for the second season.Thompsons arrival gives Miami another proven shooter as the franchise continues reshaping its roster around Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.Heat president Pat Riley made it clear the organization believes Thompson can offer much more than just his shooting.Klay is one of the most iconic players to ever suit up in the NBA, Riley said. A four-time battle tested World Champion who will fit perfectly into his role as an all-around player at both ends of the court. We all talk about his shooting skill, but there is so much more he brings to the game. We are blessed that Klay chose the Heat in our quest to challenge for championships.The move comes after Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks agreed to a contract buyout on Friday, ending his two-season stint with the franchise.Thompson originally arrived in Dallas through a sign-and-trade with the Golden State Warriors, joining Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in what appeared to be one of the leagues most dangerous offensive trios.That situation quickly unraveled. Doncic was stunningly traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2025, Irving later suffered a torn ACL and Anthony Davis, who arrived in the Doncic deal, was eventually moved to Washington.Now Thompson gets a fresh start with a Heat team that has been one of the NBAs busiest this offseason.Miami acquired Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis from Milwaukee in a blockbuster package that sent Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kelel Ware and Kasparas Jakuionis to the Bucks. The Heat also added Tim Hardaway Jr. to further bolster their outside shooting.Thompson should fit right in.The five-time All-Star has shot 41 percent from three across his career and made more than 200 three-pointers for the 11th time last season.
